A daily habit.

We all have them. Wake up, shower, eat food (breakfast lunch and dinner! yeah!), talk with friends, check email, work, school, sleep, watch tv, computer games, IM, post on the guestbook, check a few forums, give your mom a hug... These are just a few habits that could be and are part of our daily routine.

Where is God? Are we trying to fit him in after the dishes and trash are done or is he top priority, ruler of our lives? Are we giving each day to him or hoping he hijacks it when we are in trouble? I was faced with this reality today.

Yes, I remind people to read their Bible but these last few weeks I haven't been doing it very well myself... My parents gave me two daily devotion books for college. One is "First Thing Everyday devotions for men". The second is "365 Daily Devotions on Prayer".

Guess what the first devotion in FTE is. It's all about developing a habit of setting aside each morning for God and devoting each day to him. In 365 DDOP, October 5th is about "Spending time in prayer", giving an example how as a child takes years to mature and learn everything he or she needs to know, so we must spend years (in this case a life time) daily growing and learned more about God by communication with him. After this I also read Search for Significance which has been explaining a relationship with God and was warning about how Satan will try to keep us from connecting with God.

I don't know about you but I think God just hit me over the head! I have been slacking in my daily growth in him. College is the start of new habits and a new schedule. Now is the time to make sure he's in that new habit and schedule.

Thank you God for the bump. I today will strive once again with a new
vigor and zeal to grow closer to you, to love you and to shine like a
lighthouse on this rocky shored campus. Please give me the strength,
courage, and diligence's to stay with it and the forgiveness when I don't.
When I fail Lord (and I will), remind me that I don't totally fail, like a speaker was saying the
yesterday, if I get up, dust myself off, and keep at it. Totall failer happens
when I fail to get up. Thank you for this day. Amen.

Keep him in your day; keep him in your life. Read the Good news!

Hey Lil' Bro,
Wow! God's bringing some awesome stuff to light for you! I agree that most of the time, we "squueze God into our busy schedule." But no day will ever feel complete if we start it without Him. There's this poem about how this guy woke up and rushed right into his day. He didn't get much stuff done and everything he did felt fruitless 'cause he hadn't taken the time to spend with God that morning. So, learning his lesson, the very next morning, before he did anything else, he used that time with God. After all, God created this day, and if we don't thank Him for it, we're kinda taking it for granted, not realizing it can be taken away from us just as quickly. Plus, like the poem, we don't get a lot of stuff done 'cause we haven't asked God to help our minds focus.
That's so cool how you seek to be a lighthouse on your "rocky-shored campus." I pray that you'll continue to see the lessons God has in store for you to learn, passing the wisdom you receive on to others. Heaven knows I've learned so much from the work He's done through you. Keep seeking Him, Corey.
