Observations of The Day

God allowed me insight into two things today.

The first happened while I was with my co-workers in the lab and Pandora was playing.

Something that you may not know and something I've taken flak for mentioning is my recently growing disappointment in Christian rock. There are some bands out there that really keep their focus on Christ (Kutless and Toby Mac are two that come to mind at the moment) but a lot sound all depressing and a lot like their contemporary worldly counterparts. Anyway, the second or third Christian band came on and my co-worker commented "Can you believe that this is Christian rock? It sounds so heavy etc...". My response was, "Yeah, you can't tell any difference."

It just really confirmed that if the goal of these bands is to appeal to a non-christian audience, they have succeeded (my co-worker mentioned he did not mind these bands), but if their goal was to bring glory to God and reach out to those that are lost and dying, they, in my humble opinion, have fallen flat on their faces in failure. As I continue to grow closer to God and learn what it means to live radically for Him, the more I realize that we cannot appeal to the world. We simply can't.

We stand for something that is in total opposition with what the world stands for. Some may be able to choose to ignore or tolerate us but we will never be "cool". The only way people can be reached for Christ is if they are prompted by the Holy Spirit. Remember, we had nothing to do with our salvation. With much prayer, we must live our lives in such a way that every moment of every day brings glory to our God (impossible without the Spirit of Christ empowering us). Those around us will either detest it (a war starts as the flesh battles what the Spirit is trying to bring to light), or be brought to their knees in worship of the loving, powerful God who is calling out to them.

That is how we reach the world, not by being like them and then mentioning in the credits, that we want to thank God for giving us the talents blah blah blah. The world is watching us and they have a nack for seeing the inconsistency. Remember, we are called by Christ to pick up our cross and follow Him. Those who were going to be crucified might as well already have been considered dead. We are dead men (and woman) walking. Dead to self interest. We died to our flesh and are alive in Christ! Start living like it!

Second, the same co-worker mentioned he was glad it was Friday and I started contemplating just how perfect the week was designed by God. Five days of work, a day of personal work and then rest. "Personal work?" you say. Yes personal work. Think about it, most full time employees work 5 days at their jobs and then work Saturday at home doing personal projects.

God created man in His image on the 6th day. Sounds pretty personal to me. :) Just a revelation and correlation that God brought to my mind today that I thought I'd share.

If you haven't already started, listen to this series and then follow it up with this series .

I pray it will cause you to re-evaluate your life like it has for me (now the tough part of actually doing it ensues).

Keep pursuing Christ!

It's kind of funny how the Sabbath was (originally) the seventh day. However it was really the first full day that Adam and Eve were alive for!
